JAN WORTERS MBE

Jan became a member of DRCC's Board of Trustees in February 2010.
She began her career in housing with Manchester and Leicester City Councils, before moving to work in the voluntary sector with Tyneside Housing Aid Centre in 1979. Jan then worked for Durham Rural Community Council for 10 years, initially as a patchworker in both west and east Durham and later promoting the development of affordable and special needs housing in rural West Durham.
Jan moved to VODA in North Tyneside in 1996, becoming Chief Officer in 1997. Since then she has been heavily involved in strategic partnership work at local, sub-regional and regional level, promoting the value of the voluntary and community sector, and advocating for its needs and its involvement in decision making.
Jan retired from VODA in December 2009, at which point she was deputy chair of the Community Foundation serving Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, chair of Tyne & Wear Infrastructure Consortium, a member of the Regional Strategic Third Sector Forum and Regional Infrastructure Development Group, and a member of the North Tyneside Strategic Partnership Executive.
Jan has considerable experience in voluntary sector management, and is a strong believer in partnership working at all levels, recognising the strengths that all partners can bring.
