SUSTAINABLE LOCAL FOOD STRATEGY
DRCC is leading a project to support and stimulate the production and consumption of sustainable food in County Durham. The proposal is to support the development of a Food Partnership and a Sustainable Local Food Strategy (with area action plans). This will be achieved through a participatory process of development involving a wide range of stakeholders.

Within its lifetime (November 2011 – April 2014), the project aims to deliver a county-wide strategy, which supports production and supply chains of healthy local produce, two pilot area action plans, the establishment of a longer term Food Partnership, support provided for new and emerging local food enterprises, and support to develop working relationships between school based food growing projects and community and private sector food projects.
Liz Charles is leading on this work. For more information or to become involved in this project please contact Liz.Charles@durhamrcc.org.uk.
We will be organising local events from time to time to support the development of the strategy. Please click here to read more information about the first event that was held on 12 March 2012 at Durham Town Hall.
The project is managed by Durham Rural Community Council and funded by the County Durham and Darlington Primary Care Trusts Charitable Funds.
