RETIREMENT IS A JOB FOR A MUCH YOUNGER PERSON!
DRCC's Spring Meeting was held on Thursday 21 May 2009 at Sedgefield Parish Hall. This year's event celebrated the contribution that older pople make to the quality of life for all rural residents in County Durham.
More than 50 enthusiastic delegates heard at first hand exactly why 'Retirement is a job for a much younger person!' Our keynote speaker, Harriet Gibbon, Chief Executive for Age Concern Durham County gave a fascinating presentation highlghting the contribution that older people make to rural communities.
Delegates then enjoyed a series of case studies highlighting some of the inspirational initiatives that are making a difference across County Durham. These included the work of Weardale Community Hub in Stanhope, community-led regeneration in Coxhoe, and the Trees for Cotherstone project in Teesdale. DRCC's Ken Hazelwood rounded off the morning with information about the CALOR Village of the Year competition, and DRCC's newly launched Hallmark scheme.
