LIZ CHARLES - RURAL DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Liz has over 18 years community development experience in the voluntary and public sectors. She established and managed an award winning rural community care organisation in the Forest of Dean before moving to the North East to join Durham County Council's Community Development Team. In 2006 she began a part-time action research PhD at the Centre for Rural Economy, Newcastle university entitled 'Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) in the NE of England' and is working collaboratively with two groups setting up CSA initiatives in Wear Valley, Co. Durham. At DRCC, she has been involved in work with Parish Councils, a European Citizens Panel (on the future of rural areas), Rural Proofing, and West Durham Rural Pathfinder. She has also run training courses for Every Action Counts Community Champions on behalf of the 3 Rural Community Councils in the North-East region.
Liz is currently leading on delivery of DRCC's fuel poverty and energy efficiency work across the north-east region. She is also working on the development of a Sustainable Local Food Strategy for County Durham.
