LOOKING AFTER THE MONEY
Background
The BOSS (Back Office Support Services) Project which is managed by TVRCC aims to investigate and address the need for 'back office services' amongst community groups in rural areas of the region. Financial management is one of several training packages that are now available to community groups across County Durham thanks to BOSS funding.
About the training
This training will be of particular benefit to officers and members (not just treasurers) of small and medium sized community organisations. The training will concentrate on the development of a financial policy to guide the decisions of the organisation, and the financial procedures through which the policy will be implemented. The process is to safeguard trustees from financial risk by sharing the decision making in a simple but orderly framework.
What are the benefits?
Greater confidence in handling money, ensuring transparency in the annual accounts, and reduction of financial risk. Managing the financial resources of a charity is a vital function of the trustees, not just the treasurer. If things go wrong it will almost certainly be because the committee were acting without a proper financial framework. It is better to be safe than sorry; this training will provide participants with a simple logical framework, together with a full set of briefing notes and template documents to take away.
