SARAH BANKS

Sarah Banks is Professor in the School of Applied Social Sciences, Durham University, where she teaches and researches in the field of community and youth work. She has a background in community development and worked in the voluntary sector and local authority social services before joining Durham University. Her degrees are in philosophy, social history and social work. Her research interests include professional ethics, community development and work with young people.
Sarah is Chair of Durham University’s Academic Electoral Assembly; Chair of the School of Applied Social Sciences Research Committee; and Theme Leader (Social Justice) for Newcastle/Durham Beacon for Public Engagement. She is co-director of a newly formed Centre for Social Justice and Community Action at Durham University. She also chairs the Research Advisory Committee of The National Youth Agency and is founding co-editor of the journal, Ethics and Social Welfare.
